Labs talent earns praise

It's been a busy summer at AT&T Labs, where talented researchers have earned top recognition for their accomplishments.

To ensure it can continue to attract such talented scientists, AT&T Labs encourages its members to serve as mentors. And each year AT&T Labs honors an outstanding mentor with the Charles Thompson Award. The latest recipient is Ken Lyons, who initiated and supports the AT&T Labs Fellowship and undergraduate research programs, which focus on providing opportunities for women and under-represented minorities in engineering. "Ken's great about discussing issues with you, listening to your experiences and giving advice," says Michelle Mills Strout, a computer-science graduate student at the University of California-San Diego, who worked as an intern in Ken's lab. "He checks in with me regularly to track my progress. And if I ever run into a problem, I know I could count on Ken for encouragement."
